New Manufacturing Voucher Program: A Great Opportunity for CT Manufacturers

December 10, 2014

by Bonnie Del Conte

It’s inspiring to see the level of support across Connecticut for our manufacturing sector! Many organizations across the state are working for the benefit of CT manufacturers, including the recent launch by DECD of the $3.5 million matching grants voucher program as part of the new Connecticut Manufacturing Innovation Fund (CMIF).

Governor Malloy introduced the $30 million CMIF during the last legislative session to establish a fund to support the growth of Connecticut manufacturers while creating new jobs in CT.

In August, the CMIF Advisory Board, chaired by Commissioner Smith, held its first meeting at which board members adopted the new voucher program to assist growing manufacturing businesses in the state.CT MIF Voucher Website

The program provides matching grants of between $5,000 and $50,000 for manufacturers with no more than 300 employees and located in Connecticut or moving operations into the state. Experts will be available to provide specialized services to voucher recipients to solve many manufacturing challenges today including growth strategies and planning, process improvement, marketing, training and education, among others. A complete list is available at CTMVP.ccat.us. This website will be the place to apply and find out pertinent information. The CT Center for Advanced Technology will be administering the program.

Of course, this focus fits perfectly with CONNSTEP’s mission to help Connecticut companies grow strategically, improve their profitability, and create competitive advantages. We strongly support the efforts of the state in this program and are here to assist our CT manufacturers along this journey with preliminary assessment and the project resources necessary to improve, innovate and grow.
