A Review of Effective Auditing Principles and Practices

This eight-hour workshop covers the major changes in the 2015 revision of the ISO 9001 standard and their implications for internal auditors. It is designed for internal audit teams with prior experience in conducting audits to the ISO 9001:2008 standard. The workshop can also be delivered in two separate four-hour sessions.

The interactive presentation includes a facilitated team discussion of the new or significantly changed clauses in the standard. The discussion will focus on understanding what is and is not required in the newly released standard, identifying the type of objective evidence to be sought, clause requirements for documented information, and the inter-relationships between the clauses.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • global, strategic, and operational factors behind the revision
  • changes in the high-level structure of the standard and their implications
  • overview of the major changes to the clauses in the standard, with an emphasis on:

– the context of the organization
– risk-based thinking
– increased emphasis on the role of leadership

  • review of effective audit principles and practices
  • in-depth examination of new and significantly changed clauses in the standard, how to approach auditing them, and identification of examples of objective evidence currently available within the organization
