Kanban Systems

Visual Management with Kanban

Kanban is a Japanese word that means “visual signal.” Kanbans are an integral part of a pull system that creates improved flow of information and material based on actual consumption.

  • improve flow of information/material based on actual consumption
  • develop a sound material management strategy

Kanbans are used to tie related processes together as though the operations themselves are directly linked. Having an outside consultant facilitate your kanban events helps to ensure that your organizational needs are met and established targets are reached.

Our experienced Lean consultants know how to develop a sound material management strategy and apply the concepts and principles of pull/kanban most effectively. They help to ensure your organization’s success at each level of strategic implementation.

Benefits of Kanban Systems

Kanbans are visual information systems that help companies:

  • Control and improve the flow of materials and information
  • Allocate resources based on actual consumption, not on forecasted demand

Pull Systems/Kanban are part of an integrated suite of Lean tools for business process improvement. Kanban can be applied to information or material flow with pre-established target conditions.

How to Establish Kanban Systems

Independent and objective assistance can help you to best establish your initial strategies for flow management. Our consultants are skilled facilitators who can formally instruct your company and educate your workforce on the principles and practices of Kanban/pull. Practical application of the kanban tool with follow up sessions over an extended period of time will ensure sustainability.

Kanban Trigger Board

kanban trigger boardThis Kanban trigger board indicates the size of the inventory  being held for various planned items, the order point (at which production is triggered) and the order quantity (the amount of product being  requested).

The board gives you a visual status of required material and maintains an optimal level of inventory to ensure minimum costs and adequate supply for the customer (internal or external).

Visual Kanban
