In this blog post, we look at the benefits of establishing a vision for your business and introducing it to all of your employees so everyone in the organization has a greater understanding about the purpose and mission of the company.
Today, owners need to have a true Vision for their business. One that can be articulated and shared with not only the Leadership Team but also with all of the employees and any potential new employees. Owners need to lead in a way that is authentic and consistent with that Vision. Employees are watching to see if the owner is “walking the walk” or just “talking the talk.” This is critical to businesses today, especially given the tight labor market, as more and more candidates are looking for companies that have a Vision and can speak to their purpose and mission.
Employees and job candidates want to be a part of an organization they feel is going somewhere, to be on a winning team that is working together to make the Vision a reality. This is especially important to Millennials who are vital to helping fill the jobs the Baby Boomers will be leaving over the next several years.
Vision is so critical to a company’s health that our most basic business assessment tools start off asking about Vision and whether or not it is communicated and shared across the business. The assessment looks to determine not only if it exists but whether or not it is used to help shape the future of the business.
Vision starts with the top, and if you feel like you’ve been running on auto-pilot, regaining the passion and purpose doesn’t have to be something you deal with alone. This should be a time to bring the entire Leadership Team together and to get them involved in creating the Vision and strategy that will lead you into the future.
Developing and sharing the Vision of your business helps employees to understand the expectations of them and engages them more in achieving the outlook of your Vision. It also demonstrates to existing and potential employees that the company is on the right track.
