PRIME Program
Process Re-engineering for Increased Manufacturing
Efficiency
A Service for industrial manufacturing customers of
Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) and The United
Illuminating Company (UI).
The PRIME Program is a conservation and load management program administered by Connecticut Light & Power and The United Illuminating Company intended to teach manufacturers how to implement Lean Manufacturing techniques.
This program in one of several innovative solutions offered by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund (CEEF) and administered by CL&P and UI.
Efficient Manufacturing Doesn't End With the
Equipment.
Manufacturers looking for a competitive edge need to take a
systematic approach to evaluating and identifying inefficiencies
and waste in their operations.
Lean Manufacturers produce more with existing resources by eliminating non-value added activities and by aligning production to meet actual customer demand. The PRIME Program moves manufacturers away from traditional batch-based production toward production aligned with customer demand or "pull."
A company the employs Lean principles should focus on excellence through kaizen (continuous improvement) and the relentless elimination of waste.
The implementation of Lean Manufacturing techniques typically results in more efficient use of energy as well as reduced inventory and delivery times, improved quality and increased production capacity.
The PRIME program provides the training and facilitation for a team based process improvement event. Now, with support from the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fun (CEEF), you have the technical and financial assistance to learn Lean methodologies and techniques, apply them to your business and determine your energy future.

Eligibility
If you are a Connecticut Light &Power (CL&P) or
United Illuminating Company (UI) industrial or manufacturing
customer, you may be eligible for up to four (4) funded Lean
Manufacturing events in 2011.
Events 1 & 2 are 100% PRIME funded;
Events 3 & 4 are 50% PRIME funded.
Effective with all new 2011 PRIME projects, customers who qualify are eligible (based on funding availability) for two fully funded 3 1/2 day kaizen events at no charge. With additional qualifications, companies can receive two additional 3 1/2 day kaizen events, for which CL&P or UI will fund 50% and the customer, will pay the remainder to CONNSTEP.
The PRIME Program Process
Contact CONNSTEP to schedule a no-cost walk through and
assessment of your facility to identify Lean projects with a focus
on increasing productivity and reducing waste.
If the walk through reveals opportunities that will lead to verifiable energy-use reductions (productivity or capacity improvements), then your company will be eligible for funding through the PRIME program. The extent of the funding available to offset the cost of the Lean Manufacturing training is determined by the estimated kilowatt-hour savings.
