(Rocky Hill, CT, September 22, 2017) – CONNSTEP, in partnership with the Connecticut Procurement Technical Assistance Program (PTAP), held an event on September 20th for manufacturers with Department of Defense (DoD) contracts who are facing an approaching end of year cybersecurity compliance deadline. Companies from across the state converged in Groton to learn about the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) cybersecurity compliance measures and processes required to ensure their compliance with the federal government.

Patricia Toth, Cybersecurity Program Manager at the U.S. Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) agency, presented the SP 800-171 cybersecurity requirements that need to be initiated before the year end in order to be considered compliant with DoD contracts.

According to CONNSTEP’s Maribel Morgan, Director of Strategy and Technology, “small manufacturers are being hit by cyberattacks with increasing frequency and these cybersecurity requirements will help to safeguard covered defense information.” Added Lisa Wood, PTAP Statewide Director, “there is a general lack of awareness among many manufacturers about this compliance initiaitve which prompted us to conduct this educational event.”
