About

Addictive Mfg Logo

Additive Manufacturing of New England is the go-to job shop for custom metal parts. We offer Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) which is ideally suited for a variety of industries, including aerospace, custom dental prostheses, orthopedic implants, tire molds, jewelry manufacturing, automotive, and educational enhancements. DMP is also an excellent choice for the direct creation of conformal tooling, tooling inserts, and blow mold production. Part Post Processing lets you finish your parts your way including: bead blasting, stress relieving, and different finishes Before additive, components had to be made as multi-part assemblies. Now, a design is rendered as a single unit. What’s more, you can make parts that cannot be made with any other manufacturing method.

So, where does “additive” come from? The process starts with a computer-generated, 3-dimensional part design. The design file is downloaded to the additive machine’s computer, where it is electronically sliced into thin layers. The machine spreads an equivalently thin layer of powdered metal onto a build plate. A computer-controlled laser melts this thin layer of metal, following a path that corresponds to the sliced data of the original 3D design. This layering process is repeated over and over – adding to the previous layer – until the final part is rendered. Most of our current production is small batch quantities of complex parts. After the build is complete, the parts are unloaded and any customer-specific post-production operations are conducted (such as bead blasting, heat treating, polishing, etc.). Depending on the size, we can build several different parts on a single build plate.
