Lean 101:
The Principles of Lean Manufacturing

Take the first step and learn the fundamental principles of Lean Manufacturing

Traditional manufacturing philosophies stress high utilization of machinery and manpower with little consideration for cycle time or manufacturing waste. Conversely, Lean Manufacturing focuses on creating greater production efficiencies through maximizing value-added activities while minimizing waste.

Lean 101 is a day-long, interactive, experiential workshop where you will observe the power of the principles of Lean Manufacturing to revolutionize your own shop-floor operations. You begin by simulating operations in a chaotic manufacturing firm - the results provide the basis on which Lean principles are applied. For the remainder of the day, you revisit the manufacturing environment and employ Lean techniques that are taught in the classroom portion. Simple financial statements are prepared after each simulation to illustrate the impact that implementing Lean principles has on a company’s bottom line.

You will return to your organization understanding the eight wastes in manufacturing, and in a “train and do” manner, learn how to eliminate these wastes by applying the tools of Lean Manufacturing - standardized work, visual controls, set-up reduction, batch size reduction, point of use storage, quality at the source and pull systems. Learn to calculate takt time and balance production lines and produce to customer demand.

By the end of the day, you will see that the key to a company’s real improvements and ability to be competitive strongly correlate to the ability to eliminate non-value added activities. Prove to yourself that you can reduce manufacturing cycle time up to 90%, improve on-time delivery up to 90%, reduce work in process up to 90%, improve quality up to 50% and reduce floor space up to 75%.

Who Should Attend?

Equally accessible to senior management, office staff and the full labor force, Lean 101 provides everyone with a common understanding of how Lean principles can be used to dramatically improve manufacturing operations.
